PRINCETON, N.J. - The California women's tennis team has secured four invitations, more than any school in the nation, to the 22nd annual Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Tuesday. Amanda Augustus, Karoline Borgersen, Amy Jensen and Anita Kurimay will join the top collegiate tennis players in the nation, Feb. 4-7, at Brookhaven Country Club, in Dallas, Texas, to compete in the third leg of the ITA Collegiate Grand Slam.
Augustus, Borgersen and Kurimay will be competing in the singles draw. Augustus, who opened the season with a No. 4 national collegiate singles ranking, was an at-large selection. Kurimay, the ITA's Player of the Month for November, was an automatic qualifier after capturing the ITA Northwest Regional Singles Championship last fall at Stanford, while Borgersen qualified by reaching the Northwest Regional final. Augustus and Jensen, the defending NCAA doubles champions, were automatic qualifiers on the doubles side of the ledger after winning Northwest Regional doubles title.
The tournament, which is being held in Dallas for the sixth-straight year, features a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles field, for men and women, including qualifiers from Division 1 ITA Regional Championships held across the nation during the fall and at-large and wild card selections made by the ITA National Tournament Committee. Overall, more than 5,000 players from nearly 600 schools participate annually in the ITA Regional and Rolex National Intercollegiate Championships.
