BERKELEY - Cal Athletics and Bank of the West are proud to announce the launch of 2009 Football Fan of the Year promotion. Entries are now being accepted online on the Fan of The Year website at CalBears.com.
The goal of the contest is to highlight devoted fans and their unique stories. One fan will be selected for each of the first five home games and will be recognized as a semifinalist. All semifinalists will be featured on the video board and will receive two tickets to the Cal-Arizona game on Nov. 14.
At the Cal-Arizona game - the Bears' final home contest of the year - the Fan of the Year will be recognized on the Memorial Stadium field.
The grand-prize winner will receive a gift card to the Cal Student Store, two season tickets for the 2010 Cal football season, a giant Bank of the West bear, a football autographed by head coach Jeff Tedford, and a feature to run in the This Week at Cal e-newsletter and in the winter issue of the Cal Sports Quarterly magazine.
Last year's Bank of the West Fan of the Year contest was recognized as a silver-medal winner by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA). Ed McNight, who has attended all Cal home games since 1934, received the Fan of the Year honor for 2008.
