The Bruins then added four more runs in the ninth inning when Chase Utley hit a grand slam off of Cal's Andrew Sproul to make the score 13-7. The Bears did make a comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth when shortstop Jason Williams hit his second three-run homer of the day, this time off of UCLA reliever Josh Karp to get within 13-10.
