Box Score

Berkeley - The California Golden Bears flexed their offensive muscle, generating nine runs on 11 hits, including three home runs to defeat Stanford, 9-1 (six innings) in the series finale in Levine-Fricke Field on Saturday afternoon. Cal took two-of-three from the Cardinal.

The win also gave 20th year head coach Diane Ninemire career victory No. 880.

Cal (25-20, 2-4) continues conference play on the road next week, beginning with an evening tilt at Arizona State on Apr. 13, followed by two games at Arizona on Apr. 14-15.

The Bears received another solid pitching effort from sophomore Lauren Frankiewicz as she improved her record to 12-9 on the season after allowing one run on five hits in six innings of work. Frankiewicz also earned the win in the circle in Thursday's 3-0 win at Stanford.

Alex Sutton produced two hits on four plate appearances including a two-run home run in the second inning. It was her ninth home run of the 2007 campaign, and second in her last three games. Julie Meyer connected for her fifth home run of the year after her blast over the center field wall plated two runs. Bernice Masaniai also got involved in the home run department as she connected for her sixth of the season - a solo shot in the third inning.

After a scoreless first inning, Cal exploded for five runs (all with two outs) in second inning to seize the early momentum. Gina Leomiti drew a lead off walk and would later advance to second after Katie Vickers grounded out to Tricia Aggabao. Leomiti then moved to third on a passed ball, before producing the game's first run after Cardinal starting pitcher Becky McCullough's pitch rolled to the backstop. After Vernae Sevilla drew a walk, Meyer crushed the McCullough offering over the center field wall to put Cal up 3-0. Morgan Siegel then kept the inning alive with a base hit, before Sutton belted a shot over the right field wall, boosting the Cal lead to 5-0.

The Bears went up 6-0 after Masaniai led off the third inning with a solo blast to center field, and added another run in the fourth when Leomiti's double plated Sutton, who led off the inning with a single to left field.

Cal ended the game early in the sixth inning when Vickers punched a single thru the left side, scoring both Shannon Houston and Christina Schallig.

McCullough took the loss for the Cardinal (27-8, 3-3), allowing nine runs on 11 hits in six innings.
