SEATTLE, Wash. - The 20th-ranked California women won all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests Saturday claiming a 6-1 victory over No. 19 Washington in the Huskies final home match of the season. The Bears, rebounding from yesterday's upset by Washington State, improved their record to 10-4. Washington's record dropped to 13-5.
In the singles matches, Ilona Kordonskaya lost to No. 74 Jieun Jacobs 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 in the No.2 position. In the No. 3 position, No. 113 Catherine Lynch dropped Colleen Gray 7-5, 6-4. In No. 4 singles No. 82 Christina Fusano defeated Dea Sumatri, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4. Finally in No. 5 singles Carla Arguelles defeated Andrea Coulter 7-6(1), 6-1.
The Bears clinched the team victory in No, 2 doubles with Fusano and Jacobs defeating Carter and Hoe 8-6. In other doubles No. 44 Kops-Jones and Jody Scheldt defeated the duo of Gray and Dea 8-3. Coulter and Kordonskaya also fell losing to Arguelles and Lynch 8-4.
The Bears return to the Bay Area on Wednesday to take on Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. At 4:00 p.m. Cal returns home to Hellman Tennis Center on Friday to challenge UCLA at 1:30 p.m.
