Sixth-Ranked Cal Wins Pacific Tiger Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - Sixth-ranked California (2-0) won three out of 10 events on Saturday and won its third straight Pacific Tiger Invitational at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex on the campus of the University of the Pacific. Overall, the Golden Bears won six out of 17 events and scored 863.5 points to beat five other teams, including runner-up USC, to capture the two-day Invitational.

Cal junior Jonas Tilly won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 45.66, sophomore teammate Jernej Godec won the 100-yard butterfly (48.77) and the Cal A squad won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.25) on Saturday as the Bears beat the second-place Trojans (718) by more than 100 points. Stanford, which did not compete on Friday, was third (434).

Tilly, who won the 50 free (20.76) on Friday, was the only Bear to win multiple individual races in Stockton. Cal senior Henrique Barbosa added a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:03.97), freshman teammate David Russell was second in the 200 backstroke (1:49.11) and sophomore teammate William Copeland was second in the 100 free (45.89) on Saturday.

The Bears return to action when they swim at the Stanford Triple Distance Meet at 2 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 9, at Stanford. They host Pacific in their next competitive meet at 1 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 11, at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
