BERKELEY - California senior Christoffer Konigsfeldt claimed the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week award for the week of April 1-7, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Konigsfeldt clinched both of the Golden Bears' wins this past week against then-No. 44 Oregon and then-No. 30 Washington. Konigsfeldt defeated the Duck's Daan Maasland, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, on April 5 in Eugene, Ore. California went on to beat Oregon 4-3. In the 5-2 victory over the Huskies, Konigsfeldt beat Max Manthou, 6-2, 6-7(2), 6-0, to secure the team victory on April 6 in Seattle.
This is the third Pac-12 Player of the Week honor of the season for the Bears, as junior Ben McLachlan (on March 19) and sophomore Gregory Bayane (March 12) also earned the accolade.
The ITA currently ranks Konigsfeldt - a native of Rungsted Kyst, Denmark - at No. 83 in singles and ranks the duo of Konigsfeldt and junior Campbell Johnson at No. 31.
The 16th-ranked Golden Bears host No. 73 Utah on Friday and Arizona on Saturday in the last home regular-season matches of 2013 at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
