Berkeley, CA - The Pac-10 Conference announced Monday morning that California senior defensive end Andre Carter has been named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Cal's 24-21 win over Utah.
Carter, a pre-season All-American, had a big day against the Utes, chalking up seven unassisted tackles. Included in that group were three tackles behind the line of scrimmage for minus seven yards. He had a five-yard sack and he recovered a Utah fumble.
Cal held Utah to just 12 yards of total offense through the first 25 minutes of the game and held the Utes to under 300 yards of total offense for the game (297).
Carter will have a big test this week in going against Illinois offensive tackle Marques Sullivan, who was a pre-season All-America pick and who joined Carter for the Playboy magazine pre-season All-America team photo session in Arizona this past May.
