ANNAPOLIS, M.D. - The Golden Bears won their second game of the day in the Navy Open, dropping host team Navy, 12-7. Cal started its title-defending season 2-0 after the first day of the Navy Open. The Mids faired better than last year when the Golden Bears handily defeated them, 13-3. Senior Michael Sharf paced the squad for the second game with a team-high six goals.
The first quarter was close with Cal emerging with a one-goal lead, 2-1. The Golden Bears came firing in the second period, scoring four goals to Navy's one. Cal built on its halftime lead, contributing another four-goal period in the third quarter, bringing the score to 8-3. Navy scored three times in the final quarter but it was too late and the Bears took the game, 12-7.
The Bears will play Johns Hopkins and St. Francis on Sunday.
