BERKELEY - For the third time this season, the California football team has earned one of the Pac-10 Conference's Football Player of the Week honors. Junior kicker Tom Schneider was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week after his flawless performance in Cal's 41-13 victory over Oregon State on Saturday.
Sophomore quarterback Nate Longshore has twice been named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.
Schneider continued his strong season on Saturday. The junior placekicker converted all five of his extra-point attempts while also connecting on a pair of field goals. His first field goal was a then-season-long 37-yarder late in the first half to put the Golden Bears on top 31-0. He added another season-long kick with a 42-yard three-pointer with 2:58 to go in the contest. On the season, Schneider is three-for-three on field goals and 25-of-25 on point-after attempts.
Schneider and the 16th-ranked Golden Bears are back in action this Saturday, hosting No. 11 Oregon for Homecoming at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game will be televised live nationally by ESPN on ABC with Brent Musberger handling play-by-play duties, Bob Davie as the analyst and Lisa Salters on the sidelines.
