Walnut Creek, Calif. - Sophomore right-hander Kristina Thorson was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for March 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Thorson, from Lake Forrest Park, Wash., pitched the first perfect game of her career against Virginia on March 12. She struck out eight in a five-inning, 8-0 Bears' victory. A day later versus Minnesota, she collected a save, relieving Kelly Anderson, with 2.1 hitless innings, striking out four of the seven batters she faced. Later in the day, she pitched a complete game, carrying the Bears to an 8-2 win over No. 21 Iowa, striking out seven. To close out the weekend, Thorson pitched 4.2 innings in the Cal's NIST championship victory, 5-4, over No. 7 Washington.
For the week, Thorson pitched 19 innings, faced 70 batters, struck out 24, allowed just 10 hits, en route to three wins and a save. She improved her record to 12-0, with three saves and a 0.77 ERA.
This is the first weekly honor for Thorson and the 53rd honor for the Golden Bears.
