BERKELEY - The University of California expects a large crowd for this Saturday's Golden Bear football game against Portland State University. In addition to the game between California (No. 21 in Division I-A) and the undefeated Vikings (No. 13 in Division I-AA), it is also "Come to College Day" and Alumni Band Day.
Families will have the opportunity to catch all of the exciting action in a fun, family atmosphere for the lowest price of the season as it is PennySaver Day as well. With the purchase of an adult general admission ticket, up to four childrens' general admission tickets will be available for just one penny each as the PennySaver has stepped up to sponsor the discounted tickets for children.
"Come to College Day" is an event which welcomes youth groups from around the area to the game. All groups must be pre-registered and the Bears expect over 3200 youths as part of the promotion.
Another highlight of Saturday's activities is Alumni Band Day, as former Cal band members of all ages are invited back to Berkeley to perform on the field with the current Cal Band. In addition to the pregame show, the combined bands will perform a 15-minute halftime show.
Following Saturday's game, the Golden Bears will open Pac-10 action next weekend, hosting Arizona State at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
