The California Golden Bear women's basketball team will be opening up their practice on Saturday, Oct. 30 for their fans to come in and get a sneak preview of the 2010-11 team. The practice will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Haas Pavilion.
The Bears, who are come into the season as the defending WNIT Champions, have been practicing since Oct. 4 in preparation for the upcoming year. The Bears return four starters from last year's squad: sophomore forward DeNesha Stallworth (Pac-10 All-Freshman team and an honorable mention for the All-Pac-10 team), sophomore guard Eliza Pierre (the only freshman in the conference last season to earn Pac-10 All-Defensive honors), sophomore guard Layshia Clarendon (an honorable mention for the Pac-10 All-Freshman team) and sophomore center Talia Caldwell (who finished last season with a 61.5 percent field goal percentage - second best single-season efficiency in school history). The Bears will also have senior center Rama N'diaye back on the court after she missed all of last season with a knee injury. Also returning are sophomore forward Gennifer Brandon (Pac-10 All-Freshman team honorable mention) and senior guard Rachelle Federico (Pac-10 All-Academic team honorable mention).
The open practice will give fans the opportunity to see the newest members of the Bears roster. Guards Afure Jemerigbe and Lindsay Sherbert earned McDonalds, WBCA, and Parade Magazine high school All-American honors last season. Also joining the squad is Bay Area product guard Mikayla Lyles and Avigiel Cohn, a guard who played on the Israeli National Team.
The Bears will also be hosting a free exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 4, taking on Vanguard at 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. The regular season begins on Friday, Nov. 12 when the Bears host Rutgers.
Season and single game tickets are available now through the Cal Athletic Ticket Office.
Triple Threat Members: There will an additional "open" practice on Sunday, Oct. 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. that will be open exclusively for Triple Threat members.
