California Head Coach Ben Braun
"I thought a couple of guys really stepped up. They refused to give in and executed well. There were two loose balls, if we secure those balls, maybe they foul us and then maybe we have a different outcome. That's how fine a line there was in this game."
"It shows that there's parity in this league. We beat them once, we had a chance to beat them twice. We just have to find a way to finish."
"Your record can't be a measure of how good a team you are. In this league, it's tough. It's easy to say `Oh, they're down and out,' but we're not down and out. We're just in the best league in the country."
"Jordy (Wilkes) gave use poise and presence. He made some excellent passes, gave us big minutes today. All the guys gave us energy."
"I was trying to call it every timeout. They just got on a run, played really good transition basketball and pretty soon we're scrambling. They hadn't been shooting well from three, but then they knocked down a few that really nailed us down."
"We did a nice job on Taj (Gibson), but he still managed to get to the line and knock a couple down."
"Our guys do rally and come back. A lot of teams don't have the character, but our team has a lot of it. I have a lot of admiration for that"
"In the end, that's what you have, your pride, your fight, your effort. This group will come together. I'm proud of the way these guys came back today."
USC Head Coach Tim Floyd
"It was a gutty win for us. We didn't come out as hard on defense as I'd like. Cal and Oregon are the best offensive teams in the league and they put us in a bind."
"Taj played a terrific game. We played through him all night. The key point in the game was they doubled him and he kicked it to Angelo (Johnson) for a three, then on the next time down they doubled him again and he kicked to O.J. (Mayo) for a three. And he played spirited on defense. (Ryan) Anderson got going in the last 5 minutes of regulation and in overtime, but until then Taj did a good job on him.
"O.J. was a difference maker in the second half. He did most of his work in the second half
"For a 15-minute stretch in the second half, we were terrific on defense and able to get baskets.
"I'm happy to win. Cal did a great job. We made some mistakes in the final 2 minutes of regulation that I'd like to have back. When you lose that momentum and go into overtime, it's easy to lay down. We rebounded the defensive boards again.
"I can't imagine them (NCAA committee) not taking a team with a winning record in the toughest league in the nation. But I can't afford to speculate, so we've got to play hard against Stanford."
