Making its 27th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships, the No. 8 California women's tennis team (20-5, 6-2 Pac-10) is one of the final four teams in the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships. The Golden Bears will face No. 5 Baylor (32-2, 11-0 Big 12) in the championship semifinal Monday (May 19). The Cal Bears and the Baylor Bears will square off in a 10 a.m. Pacific match, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla.
Cal has faced Baylor one other time in program history, falling in a 6-1 defeat in 2006. This is second-straight season that Cal has advanced to the NCAA semifinal and the seventh time overall. Joining Baylor and Cal in the semifinal round are No. 6 Florida and No. 7 UCLA. The winners of the two semifinal matches will face each other in the NCAA Championship Final, Tuesday, May 20 in a noon Pacific match.
