BERKELEY, Calif. - Cal head coach Joanne Boyle
"Oregon played us really tough. If you look at our history with them, there are low scoring and not pretty games. I think they present a really tough match-up for us. Bev (Smith) did a great job with what they were trying to do against us. We just struggled with it, so I'm glad to get away with the win. We need to start doing some things better. We're pulling games out, but barely."
On what did not work well tonight
"We haven't been executing the offense very well. We stare people down. People are playing us differently. They're sometimes sagging off our guards and double and triple teaming our posts, and we're not passing the ball when we need to pass it to them. Sometimes we're holding it too long. I think we're not rotating the ball. Tonight, Ashley (Walker) did a great job, but we were staring her down. I think we've just got to get things on the back end and be patient and trust that things are going to come later in the offense. We're staring our posts down a lot, and our guards aren't getting ready to shoot. They want to feed it to the post. I thought we were shooting the ball really well in the first part of the season, and now it's like we're catching it and looking for a post and not being a threat on the outside."
On tonight's win
"I will take them. I told them that. I will definitely take those wins. I think you become like your team, you expect more of yourself and we're too good to kind of go through the season grinding games out. We're better than this. You just want to see your team grow and get better. We're kind of stagnant right now."
On the Pac-10 Conference and playing Oregon State
"It happened last week. We go down there, and we battle two games and pull them out. Stanford comes back with 0-2, and no one would have thought it. In our minds, as I watch film, those teams are as good as anybody that we've played. I think there have been a lot of injuries early on in the conference. I think there were a lot of people finding their rhythm and us included. Now, I think that people are getting back and healthy, and some people are playing their best basketball. June (Daugherty) is a great coach and they have nothing to lose."
Cal forward/center Ashley Walker
On her performance
"I've been up and down right now with offense, which is hard when you're getting double and triple and quadruple teamed sometimes. They still double teamed me tonight. I've been in practice focusing on finishing and focusing on doing the little things. I didn't shoot great from the floor tonight, but I ran hard and I did other things to contribute when I'm not finishing. I just told myself today, `No matter what I'm going to do, I'm going to finish as much as I can. Everything I put up, I'm going to finish or get fouled and go to the basket.'"
