The Golden Bears tied for third in the Pac-10 in 2008-09 with an overall record of 22-11. Cal advanced to its first NCAA Tournament since 2006 and achieved its first Top-25 ranking since 2003. Leading the way are senior guards Jerome Randle and Patrick Christopher, who both garnered All-Pac-10 first-team honors last season. Cal has earned some high preseason rankings thus far - No. 14 Athlon Sports, No. 16 The Sporting News and ESPN The Magazine, and No. 20 CBSSports.

This season, in addition to the nine conference foes, Cal welcomes Iowa State to Haas Pavilion on Dec. 5 as part of the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Challenge. The Bears face Murray State in the home opener on Dec. 9, followed by Detroit on Nov. 11, as part of the regional portion of the 2009 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. Jacksonville and Princeton will make their way to Berkeley for games on Nov. 24 and Nov. 29, respectively. Rounding out the nonconference home slate is the 2009 Golden Bear Classic. Cal will be joined by Utah Valley University, UC Santa Barbara and Furman in the tournament. The Pac-10 home opener will be Jan. 2 against Stanford.
