Oklahoma City, Okla. - Former Cal standout and two-time All-American Vicky Galindo has been selected to play on the 2006 Women's National Team, USA Softball announced Monday.
Galindo, who served as an undergraduate assistant for Cal during the 2006 season while completing her degree, helped the USA national team advance to the title game of the World Cup of Softball last summer. She also competes for the Chicago Bandits in the National Pro Fastpitch softball league.
The national team will attempt to win an unprecedented sixth consecutive gold medal at the ISF Women's World Championship in Beijing, China (Aug. 27-Sept. 5). The 2006 ISF Women's World Championship serves as the major qualifier for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The top five teams from the World Championship will qualify for Beijing and will be seeded in the order they finish.
The USA has been the top seed in the past three Olympics and looks to secure its fourth top seed during the upcoming World Championship.
