BERKELEY - California senior attacker Megan Takacs was named the MPSF Offensive of the Week after scoring four goals and collecting 11 draw controls against Fresno State last Tuesday. This is Cal's second conference weekly honor of the season after Brynn Gasparino was named the MPSF Rookie of the Week last week.
Behind a strong game from Takacs, Cal defeated Fresno State, 16-8. Takacs notched four goals, and has now tallied 20 this season. In addition to her four goals, Takacs' 11 draw controls were huge for the Bears in maintaining possession. It was the second time in her career that she notched 11 draws in a single game (April 4, 2012, vs. UC Davis). The 11 draws also tied for second in the MPSF single-game record book. With 116 career goals, she stands fourth on Cal's all-time career goals list, eight shy of third and nine shy of second.
The Golden Bears (4-3, 3-0) are currently in first place in the MPSF. They hit the road back to the East Coast for the second time this season to square off against Fairfield on Wednesday, March 27, at noon PT and Yale on Friday, March 29, at 10 a.m. PT.
