FT. COLLINS, Colo. - The California women's golf team opened its fall season by posting its highest finish ever at a major tournament, placing second at the 20-team Ram Fall Classic. The Bears posted a 906, a school team record for 54 holes, shattering the previous mark of 937 set Oct. 13-15, 1997 at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational. Previously, the Bears won the three-team Blue Rock Springs Invitational, Sept. 28-29, 1997.

Pepperdine won the Ram Classic with a score of 889. Individually, Pepperdine's Lisa Chang claimed the title with a 217 (70-74-73), one shot better than her teammate Jenny Glasgow and Colorado's Michelle Thomas.

Sophomore Ann Walker (Strathaven, Scotland) led the Bears finishing tied for seventh with a three-round total 224 (70-79-75) and in the process set the school record for 18 holes (70) and 54 holes. The previous 18-hole best of 73 was shot several times but most recently last season by junior Nicole Bolter (San Francisco) at the Bay Area Invitational, March 2-3. The 54-hole individual record of 228 had stood since Cal's first meet of its inaugural 1995-96 season. Julie Lee set the record (73-75-80--228) at the Nike Northwest Collegiate, Sept. 25-26, 1995.

Other top Cal finishes were turned in by senior Eden Anderson (San Diego), sophomore Cheryl Lala (Rohnert Park) and Bolter, who all finished tied for 19th with a score of 230. Anderson posted a 148 over the first two rounds to set the Cal record for 36 holes, eclipsing the 150 (73-77) Bolter shot at the Bay Area Invitational last season.
