No. 11 Cal Men's Swimming Competes in Second Day of Husky Invitational

SEATTLE - The No. 11-ranked Cal men's swimming competed in eight events Friday at the Husky Invitational, held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

The Golden Bears had numerous top-3 finishes. Cal's 200 Medley relay of junior David Russell, freshman Damir Dugonjic, senior Jernej Godec, senior Joe Whittington placed first with season high of 1:27.27 and sophomore Sean Mahoney finished first in the 100 Breast with a time of 54.95. Junior David Russell and senior Mark Eckert finished first and third respectively in the 100 Back (46.94, 49.63) with Russell setting a new season high. Godec and senior William Copeland finished second and third in the 25 Free with times of 9.18 and 9.29 respectively. Cal's 800 Free relay of senior Louis Vayo, Copeland, sophomore Aaron Casey and freshman Martti Aljand finished second with a season high 6:37.39.

Other top individual finishes for the Bears were Eckert, Vayo and Casey finishing sixth, ninth and tenth respectively in the 400 IM (3:55.54, 3:54.56, 3:57.01); Copeland, Godec and senior Dominic Cathey finishing eighth, ninth and tenth in the 100 Butterfly in times of 48.86, 47.72 and 49.02 respectively; Dugonjic finished ninth in the 100 Breast with times of 53.46, a season high; freshman Graeme Moore finished sixth in the 100 back (50.44).

With their times today Moore and Russell qualified the NCAA Championships in the 100 Breast and 100 Back respectively.

In the third day of the Husky Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1, Cal will be participating preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the finals starting at 6 p.m.
