Cal Women's Water Polo Defeats Pacific, 13-5

BERKELEY, CA - The No. 3 ranked University of California women's water polo team (19-4, 7-2 MPSF) defeated No. 14 ranked Pacific (6-14, 0-9 MPSF), 13-5, Friday at Spieker Aquatics Complex on the Cal campus.

The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by senior captains Erin Kelley and Melanie vonHartitzsch, and a goal by junior Colette Glinkowski. However, Pacific battled back by outscoring Cal, 4-3 in the second period to get within 6-4. But, the Bears were able to run away with the match when they outscored the Tigers, 7-1, in the second half.

Glinkowski, vonHartitzsch, junior Heather Petri, sophomore Beth Irwin and freshman Breena Fleener all scored two goals apiece for Cal. The leading scorer for Pacific was Cari Bertrand with three goals.

The Bears will next travel to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament, Apr. 9-11 in Los Angeles.
