TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 6 California women's golf team is in third place with a 289 Monday after the first round of the Wildcat Invitational at Arizona National Golf Course.
Under stormy conditions, No. 10 Ohio State carded a 285 to grab the first-day lead, while No. 2 UCLA is second at 288. No. 11 Vanderbilt is fourth at 290, followed by No. 27 UNLV in fifth at 306. No. 3 Arizona, the 14-team tournament host, is eighth at 311.
The Golden Bears Sarah Huarte and the Buckeyes Allison Hanna head into tomorrow's 7 a.m. PT tee time in a tie for first at minus-three 68, equaling Cal's school record for low round. Cal sophomore Sophia Sheridan is third at 69, her collegiate best round.
Also counting for Cal were senior Claire Dury's round of 75 (tie for 17th) and sophomore Sofie Andersson's score of 77 (tie for 28th). Andersson, a Swedish national team player, is in the lineup for the first time since October due to a back injury. Cal senior Anna Temple carded a 78, tying for 35th.
