BERKELEY - With the Bears ranked in the Top 15 in most preseason polls, tremendous excitement surrounds the California football program. And it all gets started on Saturday, Aug. 28, when Cal fans will get to interact with the players in the first event to kick off the season at Fan Appreciation Day. Festivities start at 10:30 a.m., and fans should enter Memorial Stadium through the North Tunnel, where the Golden Bears run onto the field at the start of each game. Meet the coaching staff and take part in interactive Cal football drills run by the team, including passing drills (where fans can catch passes in the end zone thrown by Cal's quarterbacks), field goal kicking drills with Cal's kicking squad, and blocking drills led by Cal's offensive and defensive lines. Plus, there will be a free poster giveaway and player autograph opportunities. Media guides, T-shirts and season tickets will be for sale, and fans will also be able to purchase authentic jerseys worn by past Cal players. Free lunch will be served at noon, compliments of Baja Fresh, Compadres and Coca-Cola. In addition to the football activities, Cal's field hockey team - the defending NorPac Conference champions - opens its season with an 11 a.m. match against Indiana on neighboring Maxwell Family Field. Free parking is available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Stadium lot, as well as the Prospect, Kleeberger and Strawberry Canyon lots, with passes offered at the entrance each lot. Parking at other campus parking lots is for $7.00 for the entire day.
