TURLOCK - After redshirting last season following his transfer from Mesa JC in Phoenix, he is expecting to contend for playing time and could even come on to bid for starting duties this fall.)
The first day of camp wasn't easy because of the heat. Now, I'm from Phoenix and so I know about the heat, but I guess I've gotten used to the Bay Area weather and because it felt really hot out there during the afternoon practice. It just means we all have to block that out and keep the intensity and concentration going.
After the morning practice and lunch, I went back to my room where I'm staying with Dewey Hale and Don Smith. We all just laid down and listened to music. I put on some soft music and tried to get mentally focused for the afternoon practice. I played some Marvin Gaye, some gospel, some Maxwell and we all tried to get some rest.
IT's hard to play in this type of heat, but it really felt good to be healthy and back doing the type of things I'm used to be able to do on the football field. I got a couple interceptions in the morning practice and that felt good. Last year was hard because of the hernia and I wasn't even healthy during spring drills, so it was good to be able to show everybody the things I can do to help this football team.
I stil have some work to do on my technique, but I'm still learning and trying to get better every day.
I hear the weather will be slightly cooler over the next couple days so that should help. The intensity is real high out on the football field and the spirits of the team is good. It should really liven up in a couple days when we put the pads on. Hope to see everybody when we get back to Berkeley for the FunFest next Sunday. Go Bears!
