Cal finished the 2009-10 campaign with a 24-11 overall record and a 13-5 Pac-10 record en route to its first conference crown in 50 years. The Bears also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season under third-year head coach Mike Montgomery.
Highlighting Cal's nonconference home schedule is a visit from the 2008 NCAA champion Kansas Jayhawks on Dec. 22. KU's only previous game on the Cal campus was a 66-56 win for the Jayhawks during the 1956-57 season. The Jayhawks, who were ranked seventh nationally at the time, were led by center Wilt Chamberlain. The Bears will also welcome local opponent UC Davis on Wednesday, Dec. 1.
Returning in 2010-11 will be juniors Jorge Gutierrez and Harper Kamp. Gutierrez, who averaged 5.5 ppg a year ago, will be called upon to be one of the Bears' key contributors after Cal lost five seniors from its' Pac-10 championship squad. Kamp redshirted last season as he recovered from knee surgery following the 2008-09 season. Kamp and senior Markhuri Sanders-Frison will lead the Bears in the front court.
A couple of Cal's incoming freshmen this season include guards Allen Crabbe and Gary Franklin. Crabbe was named the Gatorade Player of the Year last year for Price High School, while Franklin, a graduate of Mater Dei High School, was listed as the No. 66 recruit by ESPN. The incoming class was ranked No. 17 by Scout.com and No. 21 by ESPN.
Mini Packs and season tickets, including premium seating, are also available. Pac-10 single-game tickets are now on sale to current men's basketball season ticket holders and donors, and will become available to the general public Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m.
