Sainsbury Leads Field Hockey over St. Louis

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Senior Megan Sainsbury scored five goals and assisted on two others to lead the Cal field hockey team to an 8-1 rout over St. Louis Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Cal improved to 2-0 on the year, while St. Louis fell to 1-1. The Bears conclude their opening road trip with a game against Davis & Elkins Monday morning.
With the two assists against St. Louis, Sainsbury moved past head coach Shellie Onstead for the Cal career record. She now has 20 assists in just over three seasons, while Onstead totaled 18 assists when she played for the Bears from 1980-82. In addition, Sainsbury has moved up to fifth place on the Cal career scoring chart with 19 goals.
Against St. Louis, the Bears trailed, 1-0, after surrendering an early goal to the Billikins. However, Cal scored four times before the end of the first half. Sainsbury scored three times, and Annika Kuefer added the other goal.
In the second half, Amber Stockstill and Sara Baron scored one goal each and Sainsbury added two more. Overall, Cal outshot St. Louis, 17-3, for the game.
