AUCKLAND, New Zealand - California swimming alumna Lauren Boyle claimed spots on New Zealand's World Championships and World University Games teams based on her success in her country's national championships held earlier in April.
At the meet, Boyle posted a New Zealand record in the 800 free with a time of 8:33.30, broke her own national record in the 200 free with a winning time of 4:07.61 and won the 400 free in a time of 1:58.74.
She is slated to swim in the 200-, 400- and 800-meter freestyles and in the 4x200-meter free relay at the World Championships, which run from July 24-31 in Shanghai, China. Boyle is scheduled to compete in those same individual events at the World University Games, to be held from Aug. 14-19 in Shenzhen, China.
Boyle was a member of Cal's 2009 NCAA championship team who finished her college career in 2010. As a senior, she won the Pac-10 title in the 500-yard free and claimed All-America honors in the 500 free, 800 free and 800-free relay at NCAAs. Boyle was an honorable mention All-American in the 200 free in 2010. She graduates from Cal in May.
