BERKELEY - Cal continued its spring practice sessions Tuesday as the Golden Bears rolled into their fourth week of workouts under a steady light rain at Witter Rugby Field.

After focusing on individual for much of the early portion of the practice, the end of the workout included a pair of team sessions that included red zone work.

"Red zone is always tough anytime you shrink t he field like that," head coach Jeff Tedford said. "It's good to get some good quality reps at it and get everybody going on both sides of the ball."

Tailback Brendan Bigelow was used extensively during the red zone work, scoring four touchdowns on the ground on rushes of 5, 6, 13 and 20 yards.

In the final period of practice, Vincenzo D'Amato nailed a 50-yard field goal to send he and his teammates home.

During his post-game interviews, Tedford also had good news on tailback C.J. Anderson, who had injured his left hand during last Saturday's workout.

"Actually, we had good news that C.J. [Anderson] didn't have to have his operated on," Tedford said. "Once they put him under and he was able to relax, they were able to put it back in place. He practiced all practice today. He was fine, caught the ball with the cast on and the whole bit."

"It was real important [to get back out to practice] because I worked hard in the offseason over the winter to lose weight and to get back to the person they were recruiting me as," Anderson said. "I wanted to come out this spring to prove what I can do and try to fight for a starting job, and missing [practice] wasn't going to make it happen."

Cal will continue spring practice through Saturday, April 21, when fans of all ages are invited to join the Golden Bears at the Cal Spring Football Experience to watch practice, meet the team, take part in an autograph session, enter to win a trip to Columbus for Cal's game at Ohio State during the 2012 season, and much more. The free event is part of Cal Day festivities on campus and will take place at Edwards Stadium. Fans can enter the venue at the South Entrance located at the corner of Fulton Street and Bancroft Way in Berkeley. Gates open at 10 a.m. PT, with the team's workout slated to begin at 11 a.m.

"It's going to be a great event," Tedford said. "There will be a lot of fan interaction. We'll have some of our NFL players back because that night there's a gala going on. It should be an exciting day."

Cal is preparing for a return to a renovated Memorial Stadium in 2012, opening the season at home against Nevada on Saturday, Sept. 1. Cal's seven-game home slate will also feature Pac-12 contests against Arizona State, Oregon, Stanford, Washington and UCLA, as well as a non-conference tilt against Southern Utah. Cal plays on the road at Ohio State, Oregon State, USC, Utah and Washington State.
