PASADENA - Cal has been picked to finished seventh in the 2010 Pac-10 preseason poll of media members who regularly cover the league. Defending Pac-10 champion Oregon narrowly edged out USC as the choice to win the 2010 Pac-10 conference football title. The Ducks were listed in the top spot by 15 of the 35 voters participating in the poll and are picked to win the league for only the second time (also in 2001). USC picked up 12 first-place votes and was only three points behind the Oregon, equaling the second-closest voting since the preseason poll began in 1961. Oregon State, Stanford, Arizona, Washington, Cal, UCLA, Arizona State and Washington State round out the poll.
A record seven teams received at least one first-place with Oregon State (3), Arizona (2), Stanford (1), UCLA (1) and Washington (1) joining the Ducks and Trojans.
Cal opens its 2010 season vs. UC Davis at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 4 (1:00 p.m. PT). The season-opener vs. the Aggies will be the first meeting between the teams since 1939 and televised live by Comcast SportsNet California. The upcoming campaign also includes visits from Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Washington during a seven-game home schedule.
As Cal football prepares for its final season in the current configuration of Memorial Stadium, it is important to purchase season tickets this year. Cal fans that purchase season tickets and maintain their donation levels will have access to the best possible season-ticket seat locations when Cal football plays at AT&T Park in 2011 and returns to the renovated Memorial Stadium in 2012.

POLL NOTES: The Pac-10 preseason media poll has correctly picked the conference champion 26 of 49 times and has been more accurate of late in correctly identifying the conference champion in nine of the last 10 years ... Oregon snapped USC's hold on the top spot after the Trojans were the media's pick to win the league each of the last seven years ... The three-point edge Oregon posted over USC in the 2010 poll equals the second-closest poll ever - USC was picked by two points over UCLA in 1989, while other three-point margins have included UCLA over Arizona State in 1998 and Washington over USC in 2000 ... In all three previous instances, the team picked to win the league claimed the title.
