Bears Star at WUGS, Junior Worlds

BERKELEY - A trio of Golden Bears made recent international news, as junior Tom Shields won a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly and alumnus Guy Barnea claimed silver in the 50-meter backstroke in the World University Games, and incoming freshman Seth Stubblefield anchored the United States' gold-medal winning 400-meter freestyle relay at the FINA Junior World Championships.

At the World University Games in Shenzen, China, Shields posted a time of 52.62 to claim second in the 100 fly for the United States on Wednesday and Barnea, representing Israel, clocked a time of 25.21 in the 50 back one day earlier.

The results for the World University Games, which end on Friday, Aug. 19, are available on the official website.

Stubblefield, swimming at junior worlds in Lima, Peru, finished off the victory in the 400-free relay, as the United States notched a time of 3:21.10.
