SOMIS, Calif. - No. 4 California is in a three-way tie for fourth place with a 312 after the first round of the Pac-10 Championships Monday at Saticoy Country Club. No. 2 UCLA is in first at plus-20 308, followed by No. 13 Washington at 309 and No. 23 Stanford at 310. Only six shots separate the first through seventh-place teams.

The Golden Bears, who won last year's conference crown over Arizona, are tied with No. 31 Arizona State and No. 9 USC with 36 holes to play. The Bruins are the host of this year's championship.

Cal sophomore Sofie Andersson stepped up to lead Cal on the opening day of competition with a plus-two 74. On the strength of a team-high four birdies, Andersson is tied for third with Arizona State's Tiffany Tavee and UCLA's Charlotte Mayorkas. Bears senior Sarah Huarte, a two-time first team All-Pac-10 honoree, is tied for ninth with a 76.

Andersson and Huarte were the only Bears to finish with scores below 80 on a tough day on the links for many golfers. Sophomore Sophia Sheridan is tied for 25th at 80, and senior Clarie Dury posted Cal's other counting score with an 82 (tied for 37th).

Arizona's Erica Blasberg is atop the leader board at minus-one 71 as the only golfer to shoot a round below par today. Stanford's Angela Rho is second at 73.

The second round tees off Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., and the tournament wraps up Wednesday.
