Berkeley - Taryne Mowatt pitched a complete game five-hit shutout to lead the fourth-ranked Arizona Wildcats to a 6-0 win over the California Golden Bears on Friday afternoon.
Cal (28-27, 2-11 Pac-10) hosts No. 7 Arizona State tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in Levine-Fricke field.
Jenae Leles' solo home run in the second inning put Arizona up 1-0, before Caitlin Lowe's triple to right field plated both Adrienne Acton and Sam Banister, pushing the Wildcat lead to 3-0.
Arizona (35-9, 11-2) added a pair of runs in the fourth courtesy of Chelsie Mesa fielder's choice RBI and a Kristie Fox RBI. K'Lee Arredondo's RBI double to center field in the fifth allowed Banister to cross home plate, completing the Arizona scoring.
Mowatt improved to 27-7 in the circle and added 10 strikeouts to her performance. Lauren Frankiewicz allowed three runs on three hits to take the loss for Cal to fall to 14-14 in the circle. Brittany LaRosa relieved Frankiewicz in the second inning and allowed three runs on six hits.
Erika Racklin went 3-for-3, but Cal left seven runners on base.
