AUBURN, Wash. - The California women's golf team finished 22nd with a 36-hole score of 627 at the NCAA Fall Preview Wednesday at Washington National Golf Course. The Golden Bears shot a 306 in the second round, which began Tuesday and concluded today as a result of rain. The final round of the tournament will not be played due to a rain-soaked course.
Auburn and Texas tied for the team title with a score of 591. The Tigers carded a 291 on the final day, while the Longhorns had a tournament-low round of 287. Rounding out the top five were Tulsa (592), Ohio State (594) and Michigan State (601). The tournament featured 18 teams which finished in the top 20 at last year's NCAA Championship.
Arizona's Lorena Ochoa carded a tournament-low round of 68 Wednesday to win the individual competition with a two-day score of 139. Pepperdine's Katherine Hull finished second with a 142.
Junior Vikki Laing and senior Anne Walker led all Cal golfers by tying for 54th with a 154. After carding a sub-par round of 81 in the opening round, Laing finished the tournament on a high note with a 73. Walker fired a 75 over the final 18 holes.
Cal next competes at the Oregon State Invitational, Oct. 8-10.
