Stitts, Cope Win Medals at Brazilian FINA World Cup

BERKELEY-Former University of California standout, Haley Cope, was named the Swimmer of the Meet at the FINA World Cup, held Nov. 15-17 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Cope garnered two gold medals and one silver medal at the competition, winning the 50m back (27.21) and 100m back (59.93). Her time in the 50m back was the third-best all-time. She also swam a runner-up finish in the 50m fly (26.95).

Current Golden Bear, senior Staciana Stitts, also competed in Brazil, earning a bronze medal in the 100m breast (1:09.12). She placed fourth in the 100m breast (32.09) and sixth in the 200m breast (2:29.01).

Cope continues to compete in the FINA World Cup series and will meet up with other Bear swimmers at the U.S. FINA World Cup held Nov. 22-23 in East Meadow, N.Y.
