The California women's basketball team has been in almost every game it has played this season with five minutes or less to play in the game. Unfortunely, their youth -- seven freshmen and four sophomores -- has contributed to the Bears not doing well in crunch time and the team sitting at 5-9 overall and 0-5 in Pac-10 play.
Saturday, Cal looks to win its first Pac-10 game of the season and to snap an eight-game league losing streak dating back to last season when the Golden Bears host Oregon State (8-8, 4-3 Pac-10) at Haas Pavilion. Game time is at 7 p.m.
Tomorrow night is YMCA Night at Cal Basketball. YMCA members -- adults and youth - will be admitted for $1 with a coupon available at the Downtown YMCA at 3350 Broadway in Oakland.
The Bears are coming off a 65-53 loss to Oregon Thursday night. The Bears trailed 52-51 with 3:34 to play, but the Ducks ended the game on a 13-2 run. Ami Forney and LaTasha O'Keith each posted 13 points to pace the Bears.
Meanwhile, Oregon State lost to No. 4 Stanford, 91-54, yesterday. Felecia Ragland, last year's Pac-10 Player of the Year, posted 20 points against the Cardinal.
OSU leads the all-time series with Cal, 23-18, but the Bears won both games last year -- 72-60 in Berkeley and 79-72 in Corvallis.
