2011 Cal Football: Outlook | Schedule | Tickets | Gameday Tee

(BERKELEY) - The annual Cal Football Fan Appreciation Day proved to be another success on a bright and warm Saturday afternoon at Underhill Field.

Cal fans made a strong showing to support their 2011 Golden Bears, and players and coaches returned the positive vibe by taking time from their busy schedule to sign autographs and pose for photos as they met many of those who cheer them on. Head coach Jeff Tedford stuck around until the final fan had the photos and signatures they wanted. A few of the veteran players took a little time to talk to to express how much the appreciate and enjoy their fans.

Sean Cattouse ... "I'm just mingling and teaching my man [D.J. Holt] how to do the signature thing. I'm having a good time and enjoying the fans."

Giorgio Tavecchio ... "I have the best fans in the world. Cal fans are the best."

And a trio of Fan Appreciation Day rookies had some tips.

Darren Ervin ... "You put your first initial and then you put your whole last name [and] make sure they see the number. And say `Go Bears' every time."

Stephen McClure ... "It's a little difficult with the cast on my wrist. It took a little adjustment to get used to, but it's alright, not too bad."

Mike Manuel ... "Make sure the number is bigger than the autograph."

Cal will face Fresno State in the season-opening TicketCity Battle by the Bay at San Francisco's Candlestick Park this Saturday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. PT.

Single-game tickets for the contest are on sale now and can be purchased online at, or by calling the Cal Athletic Ticket Office at (800) GO BEARS. The neutral-site season opener for both teams is not part of the 2011 Cal football season-ticket package.

Tickets are also on sale for Cal's five home games this season at San Francisco's AT&T Park. Cal will host Pac-12 opponents USC (Thu., Oct. 13), Utah (Sat., Oct. 22), Washington State (Sat., Nov. 5) and Oregon State (Sat., Nov. 12) at the venue after playing a non-conference contest against Presbyterian in its home opener on Sat., Sept. 17.

After playing the last 88 seasons and every home game at Memorial Stadium since the facility opened for the 1923 Big Game, Cal will host its home games outside of Berkeley for the first time in 2011 while Memorial Stadium undergoes an extensive renovation and retrofit.
