LOGAN, Utah - The California women's gymnastics team posted a season-high score of 192.350, which included year-best marks on vault and floor, but couldn't overcome a solid 195.325 from No. 25 Utah State in falling to the Aggies Monday evening at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Cal senior My-Lan Dodd continued her string of impressive outings, tying her season-high all-around mark of 39.200 in finishing second. Dodd's night included a 9.900 on vault - the top mark any Cal gymnast has posted in 2005. Her 9.825 on bars was Cal's only individual victory of the meet.
The Bears (6-9) started off with a 48.550 on bars, highlighted by freshman Nicki Wells' new career-high of 9.750. Season bests on vault (48.625) and floor (48.575) followed for Cal, which suited up just seven gymnasts for the meet.
Utah State held a slim 146.275-145.750 lead heading into the final rotation. Cal, however, scored a 46.600 on beam to the Aggies' meet-clinching 49.050 on floor.
Wells posted new career-best marks on vault (9.700), bars (9.750) and floor (9.825) and her all-around total of 38.600 fell just short of surpassing her career score of 38.625.
The Bears return to action Fri., March 11 against North Carolina State. Meet time at Haas Pavilion is 7:30 p.m.
