BERKELEY - California placekicker Tom Schneider has been named the Pac-10 Special Teams Player of the Week following the Golden Bears' 26-17 victory over Stanford in The Big Game on Saturday. The junior had the best day of his career, booting four field goals in the win, including matching the school-record with a 55-yard field goal. It is the second time this season that Schneider has won the award.

Schneider's four field goals matches his personal best and he also knocked home both of his point-after attempts despite gusty, swirling winds at Memorial Stadium. He opened the scoring with the record-tying 55-yard first-quarter field goal. He then added a 23-yarder, a 30-yarder and a 40-yarder. The 40-yarder came late in the third quarter with Cal clinging to a 20-17 lead. Schneider actually booted a 35-yarder first, but a penalty on the Bears forced him to re-kick from 40 yards and he was still right on the money. He is now fourth in career scoring at Cal with 248 points and he has gone 14-of-18 on field goals, including 12-for-13 inside 50 yards.

Cal has been honored eight times with Pac-10 Player of the Week honors this season. In addition to Schneider's two awards, quarterback Nate Longshore has been named the league's offensive player of the week three times, running backs Justin Forsett and Marshawn Lynch have each won the offensive honor once and DeSean Jackson was the special teams player of the week once.

With the victory over Stanford, the Golden Bears completed their regular season with a 9-3 record - it is the fifth straight winning season for California. Cal will now advance to a bowl game for the fourth straight year, an unprecedented feat at the school. The Bears battle Texas A&M in the 29th annual Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28 in San Diego.
