BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 9 Cal women's tennis team bounced back from their loss to No. 14 Fresno State a week ago by defeating No. 24 Oregon, Saturday, 7-0. The win moves the Bears record to 8-2 on the season, as they await No. 1 ranked Stanford, who they play Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Complex at noon. A victory against the Cardinal coupled with today's victory may move the Bears back within the ITA's Top-5.
The day's marquee match-up was on court No. 1, where No. 2 Raquel Kops-Jones defeated No. 7 Daria Panova, easily 6-1, 6-2. Kops-Jones put in extra practice time this week outside of the Bears' normal workouts, after last week's loss, and it seemed to pay off, as she picked up a much-needed top-10 victory to solidify her ranking.
Catherine Lynch continued to roll, winning her 10th consecutive match, by upending Courtney Nagle 6-4, 4-6 (10-8). The victory moves her overall record to 16-6 on the season, which is tops on the team.
No. 79 Jieun Jacobs also bounced back from a tough loss a week ago, by beating one of the best freshmen in the country in No. 46 Dominika Dieskova, 6-4, 6-4. The win moves Jacobs' record to 13-4 on the year, including victories in three of her last four matches.
