BERKELEY, Calif. - California sophomore center Devanei Hampton was named to the six-person Pac-10 all-tournament team after yesterday's conference championship game. The honor comes on the heels of Hampton being chosen the Pac-10 Player of the Year last week.
Joining Hampton on the Pac-10 all-tournament team was: Candice Wiggins (Stanford), Brooke Smith (Stanford), Jayne Appel (Stanford), Emily Westerberg (Arizona State) and Eshaya Murphy (USC). Wiggins was selected the Most Outstanding Player of the Pac-10 Tournament. Hampton is the first Cal player ever to be chosen to the Pac-10 all-tournament squad.
Hampton, a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection, averaged 21.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game to help the Bears earn their first appearance in the semifinals of the Pac-10 Tournament. She converted 51.4 percent of her field goals (18-35).
Overall in 2006-07, Hampton is averaging career bests of 16.7 ppg and 8.0 rpg and owns eight double-doubles. In Pac-10 games, she contributed 18.9 ppg and 8.9 rpg.
Cal boasts a 23-8 overall record and anticipates earning its second consecutive NCAA Tournament selection when the bids are announced Monday, March 12.
