WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Senior second baseman Emily Friedman, an integrative biology and psychology major with a 3.6 GPA, has been named to the first-team Pac-10 All-Academic squad, the conference announced Thursday. In addition, junior Jeana Gevas and sophomore Erika Racklin have been named to the honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic unit. Friedman was selected to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team earlier this season. It is the first conference All-Academic honor for Friedman, Gevas and Racklin.

Friedman, a native of Berkeley, Calif., transferred from Wisconsin before the 2005 season and has been a significant contributor during both the 2005 and 2006 campaigns. This year, Friedman has served as Cal's everyday second baseman. Friedman, who earned a Golden Bear Award for having the highest GPA on the softball team, is fifth for the Bears in batting average (.312).

Gevas has appeared in 18 games this season, including five starts. She has seen time primarily as a designated hitter and a pinch hitter. Gevas has eight hits, one run and five RBI.

Racklin has appeared in 54 of Cal's games this season, primarily as a pinch runner and a centerfielder, making 16 starts in center. Racklin has scored 18 runs for the Bears this season and leads Cal with 10 stolen bases.
