BERKELEY - For the second-consecutive week, senior Ashley Walker of CALIFORNIA has been selected the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced.The senior forward from Modesto, Calif., garners the award for the sixth time in her career. Walker holds the school record for the most-career player of the week citations. The Bears have received the honor on 32 different occasions.
Walker averaged 26.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as Cal advanced to the championship game of its home tournament, the Colliers International Classic, before falling to No. 22 TCU. She shot 64.5 percent (20-31) for the weekend and made 78.6 percent of her free throws (11-14) in a combined 68 minutes of playing time.
Walker had 21 points and eight rebounds in the win over Princeton in the opening game of the tournament, going 9-for-12 from the field. Her performance in the title game against the Horned Frogs included her third double-double (31 points, 12 rebounds) and third 30-point performance of the season. She leads the league in double-doubles and 30-point games. One point off her career high against TCU, Walker was named to the all-tournament team.
Cal returns to action this weekend, traveling to San Jose State for the Basketball by the Bay tournament, Dec. 12-13, where the Bears will face SJSU and Oklahoma, who is ranked in the top 10 in the nation.
