WALNUT CREEK - Cal sophomore punter Bryan Anger was named the Pac-10 Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, adding to the College Football Performance Awards National Punter of the Week honor that he picked up Sunday. The Pac-10 Special Teams Player of the Week honor was the second of his career and his first in 2009. Anger is the third Cal player to be honored with a Pac-10 Player of the Week selection this season, following the Offensive Player of the Week selections of Kevin Riley (Sept. 5) and Jahvid Best (Sept. 19).

Anger, a candidate for the Ray Guy Award given annually to the nation's top punter, averaged a season-best 50.0 yards on a season-high-tying seven punts in Cal's 45-26 win at UCLA last Saturday. He had four punts of 51 or more yards, including a season-long 72-yarder that was his fourth career punt of 70 yards or better. Cal sophomore TB Shane Vereen was also nominated for Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week honors, while junior DB Darian Hagan was nominated for the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

Vereen set new career-highs for both rushing yards and all-purpose running yards, picking up 154 of his 230 all-purpose yards on the ground on 17 carries. He added 20 yards on two receptions, while also brining back two kicks for 46 yards and two punts for 10. Vereen scored the game's opening touchdown on a 42-yard sprint in the first quarter.

Hagan recorded season-highs of five tackles and three pass breakups playing off the bench in relief of injured starter Syd'Quan Thompson.

Cal (4-2, 1-2 Pac-10) will play three of the next four Saturdays at Memorial Stadium, beginning with a non-televised game against Washington State (1-5, 0-4 Pac-10) this Saturday, Oct. 24 (1:30 p.m.). Television broadcast announcements and game times for contests vs. Oregon State on Nov. 7 and Arizona on Nov. 14 will be made at a later date.

Fans can purchase tickets to all three home games at a discounted price compared to single-game tickets as part of the Cal Football 3-Game Pack. For only $120 (a savings of $33), fans will receive a game ticket in the reserved seating section for all three contests.
