BERKELEY - The Cal men's basketball team added its second recruit in 2000 with the signing of 6-11, 220-pound forward/center Saulius Kuzminskas to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Ben Braun announced Saturday.
Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, Kuzminskas played this past year with the Sakalai Vilnius team. The youngest player on the squad - he will turn 18 on May 30 - he saw action in 15 games and averaged 2.9 ppg and 1.7 rpg.
"Saulius is a highly skilled post player who has the ability to step out and knock down the mid-range shot," Braun said. "He has nice touch and good agility for a big guy. A young player, he has a chance to really improve. He helps fill a need as a skilled player on our front line."
Kuzminskas joins 6-10 center Gabriel Hughes (Torrance, CA/New Hampton Prep (NH)) in Cal's 2000 recruiting class. The Bears still have three scholarships available to offer.
The addition of Kuzminskas also gives Cal four players who stand 6-10 or taller for the 2000-01 season. He and Hughes join junior-to-be Solomon Hughes, Gabriel's 6-11 older brother, and 6-10 sophomore-to-be Nick Vander Laan.
