California Head Coach Jeff Tedford
On the Play of CSU
"We got banged up early. They (CSU) play everybody really tough; they played tough last week (Colorado). We were fortunate to take a win."
On Playing Reserves
"We were trying to keep guys fresh; CSU had long drives. But we will have to rethink that strategy."
On Adjusting to CSU Run Game
"We made a nice adjustment and came up with key turnovers in the second half."
On Bad Fundamentals
"We had penalties, dropped passes and a touchdown called back. We continued to shoot ourselves in the foot; there are a lot of lessons to be learned."
"We went downfield on a few drives, and [Nate Longshore] was long throwing to receivers. When [Nate] did hit them, they couldn't hold on. We weren't as crisp as we need to be."
WR DeSean Jackson
On his 73-yard touchdown run: "The field was wide open...I just made a great move. Our team is smart."
On the CSU onside kick: "The onside kick was crucial for them and they did a great job."
On Colorado State: "I take my hat off to them, they came out here and played a great game. No matter what the score was, they played their hearts out and I respect them."
On the game and future games: "The game was good, we needed a game like this. We've got to keep going and keep working hard."
LB Anthony Felder
On the first half: "It's difficult because you want your offense to move the football. We (the defense) don't like to be out there for the whole half."
On the altitude: "You can't blame the altitude and you can't panic with it."
WR Lavelle Hawkins
On the game: "We just had to get the win. We made a lot of mistakes that we have to fix."
PK Jordan Kay
On his 41- and 47-yard field goals: "It was just a great opportunity. My range is probably 50 and in."
On his first playing time this season: "The experience was great, just to get that first game out of the way. I just have to take one game at a time."
On the effect of the altitude on kicks: "I think the altitude puts about 4-5 yards on the kick and a little more hang time on the punts and kickoffs. There is definitely a factor there."
QB Nate Longshore
On the game: "Every game is important, but the games that test you are crucial."
Colorado State Head Coach Sonny Lubick
"I think Cal is a good football team and we played three quarters neck and neck with them."
"We played well and only allowed one big play in the first half."
"We knew we had to be razor-sharp after watching the Tennessee game."
"We've got to get over the hump of losing in the next week."
On the third quarter
"It was 20-14 and no one could move."
"We (CSU defense) were always on our side of the 50 it seemed."
On the play of P Jimmie Kaylor
"(Kaylor) wasn't as sharp as he has to be but he's a good man."
On Korry Sperry's injury
"(Sperry) is out for the season."
On the late-game rally
"We didn't give up."
"We probably should have kicked another onside (kick), looking back, but you're lucky to get one in a game, not to mention too, but we should have done it again."
Colorado State Players
WR Damon Morton
On being so close to an upset: "It's always frustrating because you are so close and it is in your grasp but you just can't grab it. It was pretty hard.
"We definitely knew we could play with them. We watched their defense. They are talented but we also have talent on our side, too."
On confidence after playing Cal so close: "I think it gives us a lot of confidence. We know we can play with the best. We just got to put it together. With the bye week coming this week we just need to work on the little thinks like discipline."
On the injury to TE Kory Sperry: "That just proves it can be taken away at any moment. You just got to go out there and play the game like it is your last. Kory is like a brother to me so I definitely feel bad for him. We just got to go out there and play for him and play for each other."
On impact of possibly not getting Sperry back: "It definitely impacts our offense but we got good tight ends. We got a true freshman (Eric) Peitz playing in his place and he has been showing good results in practice."
RB Kyle Bell
On letting this game get away: "We had a lot of opportunities throughout the course of the game. There were a lot of things we could have done to turn momentum back our way but we missed opportunities just like last week. We still got a lot to build on."
On possibility of moral victories: "We are not going to shy away from anyone. This is a team that is going to battle. We just want to play football and come out and give it our best shot no matter what the score is and we definitely proved today that we can play with anybody."
On the frustration of still having two close losses: "Just the little things that we just could not capitalize on. A couple plays here and there and little mistakes not so much mental but all those little things that can come back and hurt you. We will probably look back at this game and realize we should have won this game but we fought hard."
On whether the bye week comes at the right time: "I guess it's both. It gives us a chance to look back at these two weeks and correct a lot of things but after two losses like this you just want to get out there and play."
On improvement from Game 1 to Game 2: "There were a few more key mistakes this week but the overall way we fought and didn't back down was the biggest positive."
