BERKELEY - Former Cal water polo star Heather Petri, a four-time Olympian who helped the United States win the Gold Medal in London last summer, will have her cap retired before the Bears' match against USC on March 2 at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Petri was an All-American at Cal during the late 1990s.
"Heather's contributions to the women's water polo program at Cal and USA water polo have been paramount over the last 16 years," Cal coach Richard Corso said. "She has played at the highest level of the sport and has always represented her country and the university with dignity and respect. She is an Olympic champion and a great role model for all of our student-athletes here on our team."
The retirement ceremony will take place at 12:45 p.m., with the match to begin at 1 p.m. Following the match, there will be an all-you-can-eat Mexican buffet at the top deck off Spieker Aquatics Complex, where Petri, women's water polo alumni, friends and parents will celebrate the occassion. Cost is $10 per person.
Please RSVP by February 28 to Annual Giving Manager Brian Raney at 510-643-0888 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
