Head Coach Joanne Boyle
"It was a tough game. Give credit to Baylor. They travel to some touch places and Kim does a good job of getting them ready. I think they were a tougher team tonight. They did what they needed to do to win the game. They pushed tempo and played aggressive. We fell back on our heels and did not do what we needed to do."
"I am most disappointed in our offense. The shooting percentage is low, but what I am most disappointed in is that no shots are coming out of the flow on offense. They are rushed one-on-ones. We only had eight assists on 59 attempts. Nothing is out of the flow of the offense. As much time as we have spent on quarter-court execution, we can shoot the ball. We can make shots. When you are trying to go one-on-one in every opportunity, you are not going to get good looks, especially against a really good team."
"We are in search of some chemistry on the offensive end. Right now the rotations are out of sorts because there is not a natural rhythm to what that rotation looks like. I feel like our hands are forced. We need to have a natural rhythm and a good substitution pattern. We are in search of it right now and that is not where anyone wants to be."
"Early on we tried to change it [the defense on Griner] up as much as we could. We tried pressing and double teaming. Once she got into the flow, and she got that little turnaround jumper working, we were late to the double teams. We were playing some trapping defenses and people weren't in the right places. I think defensively we'll come along. I am not as concerned about that. I can see where that is headed. It is developing. I am more concerned about the speed that we play on offense. Do the kids know what they are looking for? Are they cutting hard. The flow of that is a little disturbing. We need to get a better flow."
Senior guard Alexis Gray-Lawson
"I was trying to be a little bit aggressive in the beginning and they were taking things away, and I just didn't adjust."
"We are a young team and we just have to continue to work hard. We are not doing that part right now. That is one of the things that sets us up to be successful. We have to work hard."
"We gotta find a way to win. That's Cal basketball, that we find a way no matter. We can't make excuses for ourselves and what we could have done or should have done."
