EUGENE, Ore. - Mike Montgomery is 34-9 all-time against Oregon, and Cal is a perfect 7-0 vs. the Ducks under Montgomery.
Brandon Smith secured a career-high 18 points with four three-pointers (4-5). Smith carried the Bears in the first half, and later hit a huge three-pointer late in the second half. Smith also paced Cal in assists with six and three steals, which tied a personal best.
Smith's efforts helped the Bears reach a new season high in three-pointers made with 10 (10-20).
Jorge Gutierrez continued his scoring spurge in recent weeks, this time tallying a game-high 23 points. It was his ninth straight game of reaching double figures. He has also scored 20 points six times this year and four of the last six games.
As a team, Cal shot 15-for-19 from the free-throw line. Gutierrez was a clean 5-for-5.
After trailing by 11 at the half, Cal went on a 16-5 run that started at the end of the first half to gain a stranglehold on the momentum of the game.
Allen Crabbe was the third Bear to reach double figures (19).
Coming off the bench, Richard Solomon garnered four points, four rebounds, a block and a steal in 14 minutes of work.
Cal is now 14-4 on the season when collecting more rebounds and more assists than its opponent. Tonight, the Bears outrebounded Oregon, 29-26, and notched 19 assists to the Ducks' 13.
Tonight was Cal's first-ever game at Matthew Knight Arena.
