Las Vegas, Nev. - No. 2 California completed a perfect UNLV Tournament with a 4-1 win over Cal Poly today at Eller Media Stadium. Sophomore Haley Woods carried Cal offensively with a phenomenal stretch of hitting, as the Golden Bears won all five games in Las Vegas. Woods' totals for the five game tournament: a .600 (9-15) average with four home runs and 17 RBI.
The game was scoreless through three innings with Anderson, in search of her third tournament win, leading the Bears on the hill. In the fourth, Cal broke through for two runs and Cal Poly countered with a run off Anderson in the fifth. The Bears tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh for the final tally of 4-1.
Anderson was relieved by Kristina Thorson with two outs in the fifth. Thorson allowed two hits through 2 1/3 innings to record her first save of the year in her first relief appearance.
The offensive star for Cal was Woods. The catcher went 2 for 3, belted two home runs and added three RBI to her tournament previous tournament total of 14. Anderson's starred on the mound for Cal, winning all three of her decisions, giving up only three runs in 18 2/3 innings.
With the win, the Golden Bears move to a perfect 11-0 on the season and avenged last season's two losses at the UNLV Tournament.
Cal makes a stop in Pacific on Tuesday, Feb. 17, before heading to Santa Barbara to compete in the UCSB Tournament.
